Eastern Shore of Maryland Active Adult Communities
A Tour and Review

Eastern Shore of Maryland Active Adult Communities
A Tour and Review

We reviewed two active adult communities for persons over 55 and located very close to Annapolis with a quieter lifestyle on Maryland's Eastern Shore.

In fact, Maryland's serene Eastern Shore seems another world away from the huge busy metropolitan areas of Washington DC, or Baltimore which can be as little as an hour's commute away. Continuing on to Ocean City would be another 1 1/2 to 2 hours away. Annapolis, the so-called "sailing capital of the world," featuring lots of marinas, of course, is the closest city area on the opposite side of the Bay Bridge, being just a mere ten minutes away from the Eastern Shore.

Our tour begins as soon as we cross the Bay Bridge, the land becoming flattened and miles of farmland make homes infrequent. Kent Island, right after the Bridge, would be our first stop as we understand K. Hovnanian will develop Four Seasons at Kent Island there soon but is not out yet.

Therefore, we continue on to K. Hovnanian's Four Seasons at St. Margaret's, only ten minutes to Annapolis and 2 miles from the Bay Bridge. Off of Highway 50 (the main road that goes over the Bay Bridge) take exit 29B and at the first stoplight bear right onto College Parkway. The sales center is on the right.

Four Seasons at St. Margaret's Temporary Sales Office

We thought this was an attractive upscale-appearing active adult condominium development among Eastern Shore of Maryland Active Adult Communities. The hostess stated that when finished there would be fifteen elevator buildings with ten units in each. Buildings with garages are 3 stories and without garages are 4 stories. These are all condominiums, with or without garages.

The hostess stated the Clubhouse is planned to be built after the first of the year. There will be an outdoor pool and an electronic entry gate. We were impressed with the appearance of these homes in Eastern Shore of Maryland Active Adult Communities.

If you wish to contact them before going: 410-349-1760. The home prices start around upper $200's and, of course, there are larger units available. Please contact them for accurate details and verify all information of these Eastern Shore of Maryland Active Adult Communities.

Symphony Village by Caruso Homes

After St. Margarets, we continued to the next closest community. We definitely wanted to see Caruso Home's Symphony Village in Centreville, having won many outstanding awards. Continuing not too much further down highway 50, at the 50/301 split we took Rt 301 No. to Rte 213 No. and right on Taylor Mill Rd. There will be signs.

Caruso Home's Symphony Village was a treat for all of our senses and a recommended "must see" if you are considering retirement at the Eastern Shore of Maryland.

Very colorful entry to Sales Office.

Just over the Bay Bridge, and 30 minutes from Annapolis, it is perfect for commuters who want to get away from congested city areas. Persons at today's active adult communities very often continue to work full or part time. People come not only from the surrounding areas but also from other states as well. Currently Symphony Village is surrounded by farms and you are impressed with the quietude except for the symphonic sounds greeting you immediately even from the parking lot and continuing to soothe you throughout your tour. The visual delights of the model homes are pictured here.

The Symphony Clubhouse

As you enter your first model home, an intense potpourri fragrance is in the air, symphonic melodies envelop you, and rich mellow colors are everywhere.

Is it my imagination or do the colors of this beautiful kitchen echo the rich color tones of a violin.

But before you begin your tour, a professional presentation by a gracious hostess is given. She gives you every detail about floorplans, options, exteriors, etc. She says it is a very active place showing me the Calendar of Events. They started building 2 years ago. It's on 175 acres and will have 395 homes when finished.

She says there is a shopping center nearby. They have two pools, indoor and outdoor and tennis courts. The clubhouse is finished. They will maintain your front yard and shovel snow. Please verify all information and inquire for further details. The homes start around 1775 SF in the $350's.(please verify as prices change)

You can choose a basement or not. 9' ceilings are standard, 42" kitchen cabinets, soaker tubs, double bowl vanities, seat in the shower. No restaurants on site but the closest are in Centreville. Please personally verify all information as prices and information can change. You can call them at 866-766-0009 or go to their website

This is a see-through wall. You can see the dining room through the glass shelves.

I love this artist's corner. It could be an inspiring corner for any hobby or just enjoy the view of the countryside.

As we bid goodbye to Eastern Shore of Maryland Active Adult Communities and this enjoyable tour, we paused for a moment on one of the many benches to take in what we had seen.
