This is one of the newer apartment communities on Long Island - this one for 55+ is Fairfield Knolls East -- and quite a place it is -- possibly the best value in Suffolk County. This area of the county is a good value for seniors. Some other areas of Suffolk County are higher priced. So here is a very upscale community in an area with good value. See my review:
The idea is that it is a big giant step to go from owning a home to an apartment--so builders are now building apartment complexes that look and feel like condos for the over 55 crowd.
Quality and upscale features that are found in condominiums and single homes for sale are put into these apartment homes.
It makes the transition from your long time home to apartment living easier.
One example is this apartment complex I reviewed called Fairfield Knolls East by Fairfield Properties at Mastic Beach.
I arrived a couple days after a snow blizzard and the rental agent couldn't have been nicer. She took the time to show me through the 3000SF clubhouse, through the models, and back to the office for any questions I had.
I liked Fairfield Knolls East and the location was good. There is shopping close by as well as being close to ocean beaches. It backs up to a large swath of trees for a country feeling. It has a large pool area which was covered in snow so I could not get a good feeling for how it would be in summer.

- Smith Point County Park and Fire Island National Seashore
- The William Floyd Estate
- Wertheim Wildlife Preserve for hiking, canoeing, and more

The 3000 SF clubhouse was medium sized and cozy. There was a large room, with large HDTV TV, tables and chairs for dining, a large kitchen for social get togethers and state-of-the-art Fitness Center.
This large seating area in the Community Center can be for festive get-togethers, card games or lounge..
Some of the many amenities are:
- Security services consisted of a roving patrol and electronic guarded gate (please verify specifics of these amenities.)
- Fairfield Jitney trips.
- Resident Holiday parties and pot-lucks
- Card Games and Clubs
- Activity Calendar of Events and Trips

This model had a great kitchen window and stainless appliances and lots of counter space..
The model I viewed had this great pass through window from the kitchen to the living room..notice the vaulted ceiling in living room--floorplans will vary according to the plan..please verify that your plan has these features--not all will.
This unit had a full-size washer and dryer by Whirlpool--please verify all features as they can change without notice.
In this guest bedroom, notice the chair rail and crown moulding (in villas and first floor ranches) and raised panel doors--please verify--not in all plans and features can change.
