Florida retirement communities--one of the top three areas for retirement communities. More seniors move to Florida for retirement, especially from the Northeast, than any other state for lower cost of living and warm climate. We can expect this trend will continue.

Studies show people moving from the Northeast prefer the east coast of Florida. Retirees from California most often prefer retirement in the western part of the state. Retirees from the midwest more often choose to retire in the central part of Florida where the cost of living may be lower. These are some retirement trends interesting to observe.

Let us start at the upper Northeast corner with Jacksonville area retirement communities. All communities are for adults over 55.

Cascades at World Golf Village In St. Augustine by Levitt and Sons. Focus on golf. World Golf Village is a master-planned community and the adult community included within is Cascades by Levitt. Unfortunately, after a much anticipated start, Levitt and Sons has filed Chapter 11. We do not know the status of their community at World Golf Village.

The master planned community of Victoria Park is close to Daytona and 24.6 miles to the beaches of New Smyrna. It has a very special community for over 55 in it called Victoria Gardens by Shea Homes. Shea Homes is a known quality builder in California who has built their first community now in Florida. These are single-family homes start low $200's. A slower-paced area good for seniors. Climate is average 61 in January and 82 in August. Melbourne is home to Indian River citrus.
