I love the downtown Hot Springs for its bath houses, massage and mineral water for a relaxing and rejuvenating time. The downtown is naturally quaint and charming but now they have updated it with modern shops and amenities for tourists and residents.
26,000-acre resort and retirement community with stocked lakes, 9 golf courses, canoeing, water ski. They have their own police and fire.

It's hard to find communities in Alabama as it is in other states of the South. There are some proposed ones coming. "Celebrate Alabama" in Opelika and "Gold Hill Plantation" in Auburn.
Gilley Properties builds in Alabama and Florida panhandle. They mention 2 properties on their website good for retirement but not for over 55 (we just can't find any so we are listing these until some proposed ones are built.)
