Senior Low Income Housing
To qualify for senior low income housing you must meet income restrictions and your income is reviewed annually. You need to ask because this varies and there may be other qualifications. Please check with the individual communities as rules and amounts of income vary from county to county. There are also low rent senior apartments and HUD apartments. See your local HUD office for HUD (U.S. Dept. of Housing and Urban Development) senior housing locations and qualifications. If a state isn't mentioned here, you can always contact your county's Office on Aging for names of low income senior housing developments in the area. Above all, apply early as some communities have long waiting lists. HUD rentals are in such demand they sometimes close their Wait List.
These lists can take even years in some areas. These communities are very popular, especially in areas with otherwise high rents. There is more demand than availability. It is wise to be looking for new communities as they come up so to be first on the lists which fill up fast. Please check with your county for new projects. If you are having trouble keeping up with high market rate rents, you can check with these area resources for seniors to see if you qualify for senior low income housing. These communities are visually appealing but usually do not have many extras like pools or luxury clubhouses and vary in the quality of design, but we are seeing more amenities like fitness centers and wellness programs and activities. Affordable housing apartments have some of the same benefits of regular Senior communities such as social opportunities with people in your age group, services designed for seniors and quiet ambiance.
